Lend your voice to newVoices Sings!
If you ever wanted to sing with the band, now’s your chance.NewVoices choir will debut a new community event entitled “newVoices Sings: Fox Cities” that blurs the lines between audience and performers. In this event, the audience becomes the choir and sings with members of newVoices and guest artists on familiar, popular tunes. The first event is being held in conjunction with Downtown Appleton’s “Light up the Night” family-oriented celebration taking place in Houdini Plaza and along College Avenue the evening of Nov. 10, 2017. The “newVoices Sings: Fox Cities” event will take place in the City Center inside the downtown Appleton Mall from 7 p.m.- 8 p.m. Cory Chisel will headline the event and audience members will get a chance to perform on his debut single “Songbird.”“Music has an incredible power to connect people where no connections exist,” said Cory Chisel. “I hope by singing together we find out what we have in common rather than what divides us and this becomes a platform for greater community connection.”Organizers say the event is part live concert and part social experiment. “Technology has made us socially dislocated,” said Jason Henderson, executive director of newVoices choir. “Families used to sing around the piano or watch special TV shows together, but now we have fewer opportunities to share experiences. Singing together is a fun, simple way to connect and create bonds,” he said. The idea was born from similar events in larger cities. In this event, newVoices singers and conductors will teach the audience how to sing simple harmonies to familiar pop tunes, then put it all together with Chisel and his pianist. Singers will be peppered throughout the audience leading the audience in song.“Even if you don’t think you can sing, you can sing this,” said Dan Van Sickle, newVoices assistant conductor. “This is an event where anyone can participate and our singers will help you do your best.”details:newVoices Sings: Fox Cities with Headliner CORY CHISELFriday, November 10, 7-8 p.m. Downtown Appleton City CenterFREE ADMISSION Just bring your voice and get ready to have fun.Food and refreshments will be available from a variety of vendors.
